Blagoveshchensk is the administrative center of the Amur Region, located on the left bank of the Amur river, along the border with the Peoples Republic of China. The population of the city is about 220 thousand people.
Blagoveshchensk is located in the merger of two major rivers of the Far East - Amur and Zei Rivers. The city is l  ocated at an interfluve, which determined the identity of city streets and squares; it influenced the construction of urban neighbourhoods. The streets of the city center are stretched along the Amur River from west to east. Other direction of the cities of Blagoveshchensk is determined by the direction of the course of the Zei River. In Blagoveshchensk and its environs, all the four seasons of the year are attractive. Each of them by natural indicators may be suitable for various types of recreation.
The city is located at the place where the forest zone and the zone of mixed forests of the Far East meet. This is marked by a green decoration of the city streets, where you can find oak, different types of lip and birch, fir, poplar, ashberry and maple. Solar dandelions deck the spring city, the sweet smell of the cherry and lilac spread everywhere. The waters of the Amur and Zei Rivers near the city are rich in fish. Here, there are erythroculter and Chinese perch, cautious carp and predator such as pike, etc. On the shores are nesting swimming birds.
For a long time, the city was unprotected from nature elements and often subjected to floods: streets were flooded with water, trees, gardens and buildings were demolished, leaving for a long time its destructive trail. Today the city is well protected from flooding with concrete barrier of the Amur embankment, and the main thing -  of the dam of the Zei hydropower station.
The city has two Orthodox churches, regional drama theatre, puppet theatre, two parks, four movie theatre, museum and public cultural center. The city has established four recreational areas equipped with fountains. Like in the other Far Eastern cities, historical and cultural traditions have been carefully preserved and transferred many historical and cultural traditions, first and foremost - the national culture. The indigenes of Blagoveshchensk, like all Amur people are very hospitable people.
As a major transport hub of the Blagoveshchensk Region, it has a major river port, railway station, airport, bus station. The city has a developed social infrastructure: there are 18 banks and their branches, 7 hotels, more than 100 catering businesses - restaurants, cafes, canteens, 25 pharmacies, chemist's shops, hairdressers and other services. Their services to residents and visitors include 9 tourist organizations.
In Blagoveshchensk, there are a lot of monuments. The motives of the Russian architecture of the late 17th century where used in decorating the building facades of the former "Kunst and Alberts" department store (Amur  Regional Museum). The building is the former Trading rows (Laboratory of the Amur Research Institute), built in 1909, and stylised under a gothic style. A railway station was built in 1913 in a modernist style with stylisation elements under the Old Russian architecture.
In the southeastern outskirts of Blagoveshchensk, on the Amur first basement terrace is located a unique natural monument - Cemetery of dinosaurs. It has an area of 10 thousand square meters, a capacity of layers of up to two meters.
Annually in Blagoveshchensk, the all-Russian film Forum "Amur Autumn" takes place.
A.P. Chekhov, having visited Blagoveshchensk in 1890, wrote this: "... an extremely interesting territory, life here so boils as about in Europe and have no idea". These words match the city today.
