Nakhodka

Nakhodka is a city in Primorsky Krai of Russia, the largest traffic center of the Far East. The city was formed in 1950, and it is traditionally the main gate of the Primorye in the Pacific ocean. It is located on the hill, and stretched along the coast about 30 kilometres. This is a major ocean port, the most important industrial and transport center in the Far East. Its population is 164 thousand people.

 

Nakhodka is a city of seamen, fishermen, ship repairers. Nakhodka can be called the epicentre of all the integration process of Primorye. Currently, 40% of the total foreign trade of countries passes through this city. Four specialized ports in this city transform millions of tons of cargo a year and thereby serving the Russian territory from the Pacific coast up to the Urals.

 

The climate in Nakhodka is severe. The average temperature in January-February is about -11°C, the warmest month is August- about 20°C. A moderate maritime climate is typical of a narrow coastal strip. It is worth it to cross over the surrounding hills in the late spring or summer and drive off a few dozen kilometres away, you can get in the continental climate zone, where daytime summer temperatures often exceed +30°C. The winter is frosty and sunny. The spring sets in late and prolonged. The summer is rainy. In the first half of the summer weather, it is mostly cloudy, and in the second half it is a more sunny weather, but there are frequent typhoons. Autumn is long, warm and sunny.

 

Nakhodka is the place where one can happily combine the dignity of untouched nature with certain benefits of civilization. The scenic beauty, located between the sea and its unique flora and fauna of the Ussuriisk taiga to attract tourists. The city is located on the border of natural zones of Sihote-Alin mountains, taiga with subtropical cultures, deciduous forests and seas. Near the city there are sources of mineral water. Tourists mostly prefer "wildlife tourism", and the recreation center serves as a venue where its own citizens spend the weekend. The most favourite recreation centers is the sandy beach near Wrangel, the Kozmino Bay and the Gulf East coast.

The city has theaters, cultural centers, museums, a large number of collective activities: ensemble of sports ball dance "Nadeshda", a municipal brass band, puppet theater, circus studio "Little Prince", drama theater, public ensemble "Primorochka". The ensemble of sports ball dance "Hope" won prizes for competitions at the highest level.

 

The Nakhodka indigenes try to celebrate the festival widely, with fun and spectacularly. Among the most interesting city festivals are the regional festival "Extreme for all", the Russian Flag Day, the Day of Russian youth. Near Near Nakhodka, the author's song festival "Green Beach" regulaly take place. Also, an international gathering of bikers "Face to the Ocean" takes place in the city every year including the festival of national cultures of peoples living in Primorski Krai.

 

The Nakhodka city has original monuments. In 1978, a delegation from the Japanese sister-city of Maizuru brought to Nakhodka the "stone of friendship". According to legend, it was cut down from the rock mayor of the city. In the city are erected two Memorial walls of twin towns with coat of arms of the sister-cities and with inscriptions in English, Russian and Japanese languages. The first appeared in 1972 in honour of the three sister cities - Nakhodka, Maizuru and Otaru. The second appeared in 1973 in honour of Nakhodka and Oakland.
