Haiti earthquake
What now for survivors of Haiti’s worst earthquake in 200 years? Amid the rubble, tens of thousands of people are feared dead. Many of those now sleeping outside on the streets of Port-au-Prince have lost everything, informs Euronews. Triggering a tsunami watch in parts of the Caribbean, the 7 magnitude quake was also felt in the Dominican Republic. But it escaped the disaster that engulfed its neighbour. Schools, hospitals and hillside shanties came crashing down. Haiti’s Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive fears 100,000 people have been killed. A leading senator is reported as saying five times that many in the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country may have lost their lives.
