Russian pavilion to open on time

Despite Expo-2010 construction delays, the Russian pavilion will be open on time, Russia's consulate official in Shanghai said on Monday.
The 2010 World Expo is to be held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31 2010. Up to 70 mln people are expected to visit the city for the event, which has seen investment of up to $4 billion.
"Almost a fifth of the more than 100 pavilions at the Expo site might not be ready to receive visitors when the event begins in May," the Shanghai Daily said. "The reasons for the delays include a lack of funds or the late arrival of exhibits."
The newspaper didn't specify, however, which pavilions will face delays.
"I can assure you that the Russian pavilion will be open on time," said consulate official Sergei Paltov in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Russia is constructing its Expo pavilion for the first time in many years, rather than renting one from the host country.
"There have been delays in the construction of the Russian Expo pavilion, but steps have been taken to ensure that the schedule will be met," said a representative of GAO VVTS, the company responsible for the construction.
More than 190 countries will participate in Expo, with only 49 constructing their own pavilions. The Russian pavilion will showcase Russia's recent scientific and economic development, as well as offer a diverse cultural program.
