Commuter fares charged lower

Thousands of residents of the Moscow region have reached their workplaces in Moscow in commuter trains on Monday with fares charged according to the previous zonal tariffs.
On Saturday a previous system of calculating the cost of tickets that existed for many years was re-enacted. The head department of the Moscow Railways told Itar-Tass that all tickets selling machines at ticket booking offices had been reset into the previous zonal system.
Thus, passengers buying a return ticket from the Moscow region are charged fares depending on the actual distance measured in tariff zones ten kilometer each. The fare within one zone makes up 16.5 roubles per person as the Moscow city authorities established, the same source said.
In Moscow the fare charged for one ride in a commuter train within the city makes up 26 roubles irrespective of the distance.
For many years the Moscow city authorities have maintained the cost of one ride in a commuter train equal to the cost of one ride in the metro ,the source said.
