Auction of rare drawings
Rare drawings and sketches of the Belgian cartoon character Tintin are to be auctioned later this year in Paris. Hergé, the creator of Tintin, gave many drawings to close friends so until now a large proportion have remained in private ownership, informs BBC. Some of the pieces owned by private collectors have never been seen in public before. 250 original pieces will be up for grabs, including an original edition of 'Tintin In The Congo' from 1931 - a numbered first edition stamped by Hergé himself. A particularly rare lot is taken from 'The Calculus Affair'. It was given by Hergé to his hairdresser shortly before his death and is expected to fetch between ˆ90,000 and ˆ120,000. The sale will be held on May 26 by Drouot-Montaigne.
