Cruising launches

Why don’t we speak here about a yacht or a wave runner? A wave runner - is a personal transport, designed for active entertainment first of all. A yacht is a comparatively  complex and big vessel which costs $ hundreds of thousands. But a launch is a water vehicle that is accessible in price and used for tourism, fishing and family trips.

It is quite fashionable and prestigious to have a motor launch toady. You don’t ask yourself a question how to entertain your guests that come for weekend in summer. An interesting, pithy and healthy rest is guaranteed. And some people make this hobby even a style of their lives, that gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the alike entusiastic people, which are mostly rich.

There are many different types of launches and it’s not an easy task to draw a distinction between them. Besides, the alike models are assigned to different categories by manufacturers themselves. We will divide all the types of launches into 4 groups: fishing launches, sporting launches, cruising (or touring) launches and family rest launches, that differ from cruising group in size. A fishing launch has nothing in common with a usual inflatable boat with an outboard motor that is used by fishermen. The only thing that differs fishing launches from the cruising ones is just extra rigging that makes them more attractive for fishermen. And flagship models can hardly be distinguished even from luxurious cruising yachts. Only sports launches are easily told from the others thanks to their streamlined arrow shape.

Launches differ in size first of all - with the length as a determinant, it varies 5 to 14 metres long. The next important index is a cabin with or without a berth or berths. For instance, one and the same small launch can be produced in models with and without a cabin and therefore be referred to family rest or fishing type. Middle-size launches generally have a two-berth cabin in a launch head, with the height of 1,8 - 1,9 m, a small kitchen, a latrine (toilet) and even a shower. More expensive models may optionally have an extra two-berth cabin in the launch afterbody. Big launches have spacious salons and cabins, more berths, extra amenities like compartements, niches, extra equipment and, of course, the inner decorations. For small and middle-size launches, the seating capacity is mentioned (it depends on how much weight a vessel can carry - usually it’s 500 - 700 kg). Big launches usually have enough carrying capacity not to mention it specially.

All the launches have a cockpit in an outer upper deck with chairs for a driver and a passenger. Here is placed a control desk with a steering wheel, dash panel and an engine control handle. An opened cockpit can be equipped with a tent for bad weather also. Middle-size and big launches can have extra passenger seats behind cockpit, a special swimming deck in the afterbody. Launch head is often used for rest and sunbathing also, bordered with hand-rails.

If you think of buying a launch you should keep in mind such performance characteristics like hull shape (it influences a vessel speed and steadiness), weight (or tonnage), number and capacity of engines.
