Verkhnyaya Salda

Verkhnyaya Salda was founded in 1778. Town’s history is related to manufacturers Demidovs’ activity. Construction of Salda’s iron-smelting and ironworks began in 1778. Simultaneously a village appeared which attracted people from neighboring villages. The factory gained its world fame due to its product – mill bars. With construction of metal-casting and bridge factory a new page of the village’s history was started. That led to increasing of population and gaining of town status in December 24, 1938.
Economics
Nowadays Verkhnyaya Salda is a developed industrial centre. In the town there is the largest in Russia factory where products of titanium and its alloys are produced (JSC “Corporation VSMPO-AVISMA”). Also there are:
Nature
There are lakes in the region: Shaytanskoye, Brenskoye, Bas’yanovskoye, Susanskoye, Chernoye, Peschanoye, small lakes of the Ozerskoye Marsh. Ponds boast big flowing storage. The main water artery of Verkhnesaldinsky Region is the Salda River.
In forest you can encounter elk, fox, wolf, bobcat, hare, and bear. In rivers, ponds and lakes there are fish like pike, crucian, bream, roach, and perch. Forests and meadows are rich with cranberry, blackberry, red bilberry, strawberry; with mushrooms like cep, aspen, rough boletus, yellow boletus, chanterelle, pepper-mushroom and saffron milk cap.
Verkhnyaya Salda’s Local History Museum
Verkhnyaya Salda’s Local History Museum was founded in 1996; it is located in an architectural monument of regional significance that was built in the first half of 19 century. There used to be a factory office before.
In April 2001 the museum was unveiled to the public.
At the beginning of 2004 an exposition was open called “My town. Pages of history”; it reflected the town’s history from the foundation times to nowadays. You can see here rearrangement of the cabinet of a famous Russian scientist-metallurgist V.E. Grum-Grzhimaylo, a diorama named “Verkhnyaya Salda in the first half of 19 century”, a typical Salda’s house of the middle of 20 century, personal assets of those who participated in war, of honored citizens and celebrities, modern factories’ products.
There are some traditional events like school museums festivals and folkloristic festivals.
